Throughout her career, she has photographed everything from natural disasters to Olympic athletes, rock stars, U.S. presidents and, of course, regular folk.
Throughout her career, she has won numerous photography awards for sports, news and feature photos, including the Western Canadian News Photographers Association, BCYCNA Ma Murray awards, Suburban Newspapers of America, Illinois Press Photographers Association and others.
For the past 24 years, Jean has taught photojournalism at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Surrey, B.C., Canada. Many of her students have gone on to successful careers as editors, journalists and photojournalists in Canada and around the world.
Eighteen years ago, Jean started her own photography business and named it after her first show horse, Photoplay’s Portrait. She specialized in horse sports, including hunter/jumpers and three-day events, where she photographed the action at Thunderbird Show Park, Milner Downs, Island 22 and events in Alberta, Canada.
For more than 12 years, Jean was also the lead photographer at dog agility trials, including serving as the official photographer for many Agility Association of Canada (AAC) regional competitions, as well as the AAC Nationals in 2012 and 2015.
In the last five years, Jean has expanded her photography business to include family photo shoots, on-location portraits, wedding engagement shoots, graduation shoots, as well as concerts, theatre, corporate events and other sporting events (BMX, mountain biking, swim meets, football championships and many others.
In 2014, Jean was Photography Chair for the B.C. Winter Games in Mission, where she led a team of very talented photographers in covering every aspect of the Games. In 2016, Jean will volunteer once again as Photography Chair for the B.C. Summer Games to be held in Abbotsford.
When covering large sporting events, Jean also employs a team of award-winning photojournalists who all use only the best professional camera gear. The team is also highly skilled at photo editing, where they ensure all photographs are edited, cropped and colour corrected to the customer’s satisfaction.
